After reviewing 544 scholarship applications, I’m thrilled to announce the winner of the 2025 BridgesEDU $1,000 Scholarship for Canadian Students.
The competition was nothing short of incredible, with students from across Canada sharing their stories, achievements, and aspirations. After much deliberation, our scholarship committee selected Alyssa You from Queen’s University as the recipient of this year’s award!

Choosing a winner from such a large and talented pool was an extremely difficult task. Each applicant shared impressive accomplishments, thoughtful reflections, and inspiring goals.
Alyssa’s application, however, stood out for its compelling and unique perspective. Rather than focusing solely on achievements, she wove together her athletic journey with her personal growth, resilience, and dedication to making a difference for the future. Her essay brimmed with authenticity and creativity, qualities that resonated with our committee.
A Tough Decision with Incredible Candidates
While we are thrilled to celebrate Alyssa’s success, I want to emphasize how challenging this decision was. With 544 applications to review, we encountered an extraordinary range of stories from hardworking, resilient, and ambitious students.
Many applicants showcased outstanding leadership, volunteerism, academic excellence, and personal growth. The level of reflection and heart in these applications was inspiring and humbling.
If you applied this year and weren’t selected, please know this: your story matters, your effort matters, and your future applications will be stronger because of the time and care you put into this one. It truly was a pleasure to read the essays of so many outstanding Canadian students and international students studying in Canada.
