For most state-level scholarships, you need to complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form in order to be eligible. This form is used to help the state understand how much money you will require in order to attend college. The FAFSA is available by the Federal Student Aid Office of the U.S. Department of Education.

Idaho Scholarship Programs
The State of Idaho offers a variety of scholarships for its residents, ranging from $500 to $5,000. The most popular scholarship is the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship, which provides up to $3,500 per year for eligible students. Here’s a complete list of scholarships for college students from the Idaho State Board of Education. Most prizes are open to high school students and undergraduates who demonstrate financial need.
Idaho Opportunity Scholarship
The Opportunity Scholarship is designed to remove barriers to higher education and prepare college/university graduates to enter the workforce. It awards eligible applicants up to $3,500 per academic year and is renewable for up to four years.
To be eligible, students must have an unweighted, cumulative GPA of 2.7 or above, be an Idaho resident, and graduate from an Idaho high school. A complete list of eligibility requirements can be found on the scholarship’s official webpage.
In addition, scholarship funds are available per school year. Recipients must renew each year and are eligible to receive the scholarship for a maximum of four years.
Tschudy Family Scholarship
The Tschudy Family Scholarship provides scholarships to eligible graduates of Emmett High School who pursue an academic degree from an Idaho public four-year higher education institution. Full eligibility criteria are available on the prizes webpage.
Recipients of the Tschudy Family Scholarship are selected based on academic merit, integrity and financial need. Awards are $2,500 per year and renewable for up to five years of undergraduate study and two years of graduate study.
Armed Forces / Public Safety Officer Dependent Scholarship
The Armed Forces and Public Safety Officer Scholarship provides a waiver of tuition and fees plus up to $500 per semester for books in addition to on-campus housing and subsistence to Idaho undergraduate students who are the children or spouses of military members or public safety officers. Complete eligibility requirements are available on the scholarship’s webpage.
Awardees must attend an Idaho public college or university and meet all requirements for regular admission.
Idaho Opportunity Scholarship for Adult Learners
The Opportunity Scholarship for Adult Learners is a need-based award for those in a continuing education pathway. Scholarship recipients must attend one of these colleges or universities at least part-time: Boise State University, Brigham Young University – Idaho, College of Idaho, College of Southern Idaho, College of Western Idaho, College of Eastern Idaho, Idaho State University, Lewis-Clark State College, North Idaho College, Northwest Nazarene University, University of Idaho, Western Governors University. GEAR UP Idaho Scholarship 2
The Gear Up Idaho Scholarship is for students who have participated in an Idaho GEAR UP program during the grant years Fall 2011 – Spring 2018 in a listed school district. Applicants must be less than 22 years old at time they first receive their scholarship award. Students may attend a public or private Idaho college or university. Awards will vary based on the number of applicants and funds available on an annual basis.
Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship
The Governor’s Cup Scholarship is a merit-based award with a mission to help Idaho students pursue their higher education goals at a state postsecondary institution.
Depending on funding, the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship provides approximately 25 awards to Idaho high school seniors or home schoolers planning to attend an Idaho college or university. Funds are awarded to students pursuing academic or career technical education. This is a $3,000 award, renewable up to four years for academic programs and up to three years for career technical programs.
Idaho Grant Programs
At this time, Idaho does not have any grant programs for residents.
