April is a popular month for Canadian scholarships.

There are many prizes for graduating high school students and those already enrolled in college or university.

It’s important to know that there are many different types of scholarships, too. Of course, there are merit scholarships, which are based on academic performance and GPA. However, there are need-based scholarships, scholarships by major, school-based scholarships, and many more as well.

This means that good scholarship options likely exist for you or your child.

1. Loadview Women in Computing Scholarship

Deadline: April 1, 2024

Prize Value: $1,000

Who is this prize for? This scholarship program is open to female students currently enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at an accredited college or university in the US or Canada. Applicants must have declared their major and have completed at least one academic year in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field. 

From the Scholarship Donor’s Website: Dotcom-Monitor would like to encourage and support female undergraduate students who are pursuing careers in computing by assisting them with the rising cost of higher education. Each year one applicant will be selected to receive the Dotcom-Monitor Women in Computing Scholarship of $1,000 to support their education and pursuit of a career in computing.

2. Global Lift Equipment Scholarship

Deadline: April 15, 2024

Prize Value: $500

Who is this prize for? This scholarship award is for students currently attending or planning to attend a post-secondary institution in Canada or the US in the fall of 2024. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

3. Ivan A. Olson Scholarship Fund

Deadline: April 2024

Prize Value: $500 or $1,000

Who is this prize for? This scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in logistics or supply chain management. High school seniors are not eligible to apply. 

From the Scholarship Donor’s Website: This fund is under the supervision and control of the North American Rail Shippers Association (NARS). The purpose of the fund is to provide Scholarships for ambitious and worthy individuals who are enrolled in a transportation, logistics or supply chain management program at an accredited university. The scholarships are administered solely by the North American Rail Shippers Association. The scholarship is named in honor of Ivan A. Olson, an eminent transportation professional, a past president of NARS and former Vice President Transportation, Longview Fibre Company, Longview, Washington.

4. Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs Award

Deadline: April 1, 2024

Prize Value: $5,000 USD

Who is this prize for? This scholarship opportunity is for women, aged 16 to 19. It’s open to current secondary school, college, or university students in a Zonta region (or be citizens of a Zonta country). Applicants must demonstrate the following: 

  • Active commitment to volunteerism.
  • Experience in local government, student government, or workplace leadership (paid or unpaid).
  • Volunteer leadership achievements.
  • Knowledge of Zonta International and its programs.
  • Support in Zonta International’s mission of building a better world for women and girls.

From the Scholarship Donor’s Website: Though about 40% of the world’s workforce is women, according to data from the Inter-Parliamentary Union, only 25.7% of all national parliamentarians were female as of 1 September 2021. Because Zonta International believes that young women are the key to women’s advancement in the field of public service, it offers the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award, which recognizes young women, ages 16-19, for demonstrating leadership skills and commitment to public service and civic causes, and encourages them to continue their participation in public and political life.

5. Girl Guides 2024 National Scholarship Awards

Deadline: April 2024

Prize Value: Various Awards

Who is this prize for? Scholarships are open to girl and adult Girl Guide members who are pursuing post-secondary education at a recognized college, university or trades program.

From the Scholarship Donor’s Website: The Girl Guides of Canada National Scholarship Program recognizes the extraordinary accomplishments of Girl Guide members and supports them as they work towards the future they’ve been dreaming of.

6. IWSH Essay Scholarship Contest

Deadline: April 30, 2024

Prize Value: Up to $2,000

Who is this prize for? This student award is available to high school seniors, and students accepted or enrolled in college, university, or an apprentice program. Students must be enrolled in full-time studies. 

From the Scholarship Donor’s Website: The purpose of the IWSH scholarship is to acquaint the uninitiated with the crucial importance the plumbing industry plays in our everyday lives and the global impact of IWSH projects.

7. Charlene Reaveley Bursary

Deadline: April 15, 2024

Prize Value: $1,000

Who is this prize for? To qualify for this bursary program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 graduating student

  • Loss of a parent and/or a sibling

  • Enrolled in a certified post secondary program within the same year of graduating

  • Involved in the community/volunteer work

  • A BC Resident

From the Scholarship Donor’s Website: The Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity recognizes graduating students who harbor the hope and potential for a brighter tomorrow in the face of adversity through the loss of a parent and/or sibling.

8. Pretty Lightroom Presets Scholarship Program

Deadline: April 15, 2024

Prize Value: $500 USD

Who is this scholarship for? The requirements for eligible student entries are:

  1. You should presently be a senior in high school;
  2. Or be transitioning from high school to a college or university;
  3. Or be already enrolled in a college or university inside the United States or Canada.

From the Scholarship Donor: The Chartered Professional Accountants’ Education Foundation of British Columbia (CPAEF) offers scholarships and/or bursaries to students attending accredited post-secondary institutions (university or college) in British Columbia.

9. Autism Ontario Scholarships (3 April Scholarships)

Deadline: April 2024

Prize Value: Three awards of $500 each

Who is this prize for? To qualify, the student applicant on the autism spectrum must currently live in Ontario and be accepted to attend their first year in any level of a post-secondary institution (e.g. college program including apprenticeships, university, graduate) in Canada.

From the Scholarship Donor’s Website: Each year, Autism Ontario awards scholarships to outstanding students entering their first year of a post-secondary program across Ontario.

10. IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative

Deadline: April 2024

Prize Value: $1,000

Who is this prize for? To be eligible for this award, students have to meet the following requirements:

  • You’ll consider a career in electric power and energy engineering.
  • You are working towards an electrical engineering bachelor’s degree (or first professional degree).
  • You’ll be a full-time student in the coming academic year at a university or college in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or Canada that offers undergraduate courses in power engineering.  The university or college must have an ABET-accredited, 4-year electrical engineering program. The subjects of typical power engineering courses can be viewed here.
  • You will take (or have taken) at least three of the power engineering courses for a total of nine or more credits.
  • You’re a U.S. or Canadian citizen or a US permanent resident and reside in IEEE Regions 1 through 7.
  • You’re currently enrolled full-time at a university/college or community college.
  • Your current GPA is 3.0 or higher (or equivalent).
